Beautiful Burleigh Beach
The beach at Burleigh Heads is a defining aspect of the Burleigh Heads area. Burleigh Heads beach stretches 2.5 kilometers from the restaurants and swimming pool at Mermaids to the headland at Nobby's. Its white sands are as aluring as any tropical paradise as they drift into the warm waters of the pacific ocean. With three patrolled areas along its length there are plenty of swimming opportunities under the watchful eyes of the lifeguards.
Also easily accessible is the beach at Tallebudgera where you can enjoy a quiet river swimming experience. You will find solace on this beach at the southern side of the Burleigh Heads National Park where the Tallebudgera Creek empties into the ocean. It is easily reached by following the Oceanview trail through the Burleigh Heads National Park.
The point at Burleigh Heads also provides world class surfing and is the site for the Burleigh Breaka Pro kicking off the ASP World Surfing Circuit every February.
Surfing at Burleigh has always been a favorite for locals and internationals alike. Numerous junior and amateur surfing contests are also held at Burleigh and it is not unusual to find the professionals showing us their moves.
The headland is an important refuge and feeding area for migrating birds. Brush turkeys can often be seen wandering the paths along with the walkers and runners.
White-bellied sea-eagles, brahminy kites, whistling kites and ospreys hunt fish along the creek. Countless species of fruit eating birds including lorikeets harbour in the trees of the national park and footpaths along the esplanade. The waters are home to dolphins, wobbiegong (carpet) sharks, brim, taylor, snapper and, during the annual whale migration, a passing humpback or Minke whale.
Located along the beachfront underneath the norfolk pines that line the esplanade is a wide area of parkland. The walking trails which are situated along the rocky foreshore and through rainforests are extremely popular. In the spring you may have the chance to see the most majestic of creatures whales and sea-eagles soaring along the coast.
For the energetic there is a four kilometer length of footpath that runs through the park , adjacent to the beach, which makes for safe cycling and walking in a unique park environment. Along this path is also extensive excerise equipment dotted along the paths with instuctions on how to use each piece of equipment. You will also find numerous parks for kids to play.
With so much on offer at Burleigh Heads, its no wonder the area remains the Jewel of the Gold Coast.
